WESTERN BHUTAN CULTURAL TOUR ITINERARY
Day 1 : Arrive at Paro.
Witness the most spectacular views of Mt.Everest, Mt.Kanchenjunga and the entire Himalayan range visible on the left side. Drive to Thimphu. Overnight Hotel.
Day 2 : Thimphu sightseeing.
AM: Visit the National Memorial Chorten, built in the memory of the late King , the National library, Folk heritage museum, Chokey handicraft and National Painting School. PM : Visit the National Emporium and a stroll in Thimphu market in the evening.
Overnight Hotel.
Day 3 : Thimphu – Phunakha/Wangdue and back.
Take a 3hours leisurely drive with packed lunch over Dochula pass at 10.000 ft. to punakha. Enroute you will see some of the highest peaks in Bhutan namely Gangkar Puensum (25,000 ft). The descend through the temperate forest colored with rhododendrons and magnolias takes you to the semi-tropical zone of oranges, bananas and cactuses and to the valley of Phunakha. Visit the sleeping town of Phunakha .Drive to Wangdue valley normally joked as Windy valley. After lunch a short visit of the town and drive back to Thimpu en-route stop at Dochula cafeteria for evening tea. Overnight at Thimphu Hotel.
Day 4 : Thimphu – Paro & Sightseeing.
Drive to Paro. Drive straight north to see the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong, a victory fortress of the 17th century. On the way back stop at the Takshang (tiger’s nest) viewpoint.
PM : Visit Ta-Dzong (National Museum) which is considered to be one of the best natural and historical museum and walk down the hill for a view of Paro Dzong with its traditional wooden bridge over the Pa-chu (Paro river). Overnight Hotel.
Day 5 : Excursion to Takshang ( Tiger’s nest)
Take a 2 Hours hike to Takshang monestary. Legend has it that the great Tantric master Guru Padmasamava or Guru Rimpoche as he is commonly known flew from Tibet on the back of a Tigress and landed at Takshang during the 8th.century and it is believed that Guru Rimpoche meditated here for three months. Guru Rimpoche preached & propogated Buddhism in Bhutan.Lunch at the Takshang cafeteria. After lunch walk down hill to the bridge and drive to the hotel.
Day 6 : Drive to Paro International Airport for Final Departure. End of the Tour.
