Situated at an elevation of 5830m, Frey Peak in Sikkim bears a striking resemblance to the famous Matterhorn in Europe.
In 1990, the Government of Sikkim granted access to climbers and expedition enthusiasts, opening up this majestic peak for climbing and expedition. Perched just above the Rathong Glacier and embraced by the awe-inspiring Kokthang, Rathong, and Kabru Sisters, Frey Peak Expedition has become a coveted destination for amateur climbers from around the globe, eager to embark on exhilarating expedition and conquer its awe-inspiring heights.
The Frey Peak Expedition in Sikkim begins with a trek from Yuksom to Dzongri, continuing to Chaurikhang in the Rathong Valley. The journey to the Frey Peak Base Camp follows the Goechala Pass Trekking Trail until Dzongri. From there, the trail branches off to the left, leading to the Base Camp of the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) on the way to the Rathong Valley.
Beyond the HMI Base Camp, the trail becomes rocky, with icy gaps to navigate. At the Frey Peak Base Camp in Chaurikhang, the expedition truly begins. Climbing through the captivating Frey Glacier, adventurers are treated to breathtaking landscapes and the undulating beauty of the Sikkim Himalayas surrounding Frey Peak.
