Dooars wildlife Sanctuary: land of the famous one-horned rhino
Dooars Wildlife Safari comprises Jaldaphara, Chapramari, Buxa wildlife and Gorumara National Parks. These wildlife sanctuaries span a large part of North Bengal, bordering the North Eastern State of Assam and the Dragon Kingdom of Bhutan. Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary is the biggest wildlife park of the four, covering an area of 100 square kilometers of thick sal and other tropical trees.
The park is home to the famous Indian one-horned rhino, bison, elephant, barking deer, royal Bengal tiger, bear, wild Boar and a host of bird species. Water bodies in and around these national parks attract a lot of migratory birds. These lakes are flush with different varieties of birds and ducks. It is a bird-watching paradise during the winter season.
The Jaldapara Elephant Safari is popular and is conducted in the early hours of the day by the wildlife authorities. One-horned rhinos are the main attraction of the Jaldapara Elephant Safari and also of the Gorumara Elephant Safari. Jeep Safari’s are also conducted by the Forest Department all day long.
The best time to visit the Dooars Wildlife Park is from October to May. There are a number of lodges operated by the Wildlife Department. From May 8 to May 16 2014 my husband and I had the pleasure of visiting Darjeeling and the Singalila national park under the guidance of Mr Fabian Tamang.

If you are considering a trek to Sikkim Darjeeling Nepal or Bhutan you need to go with Farouttrek (Fabian Tamang). He goes above and beyond your wildest dreams to
make your vacation perfect. Not only is he fun, personable, and an all around great guy - he also has a superb staff, provides excellent food and
will make sure your trip exceeds all of your expectations. Scott and I have trekked all over the world, and this trip- the 18Days Singalila Dzongri Goechala Trek in Sikkim by far - was the best service we have ever experienced - anywhere.

Fabian is an excellent and thoughtful guide. His planning is impeccable, which means the trip ran very smoothly, and all I had to do was enjoy the wonderful scenery, views of the Himalayas, and beautiful forest. He also goes above and beyond what you could expect. While trekking, I had quite a severe cold. Fabian organised ginger soup and hot water bottles, taking good care of me.If you are thinking of doing this trail, in my opinion, Fabian is the guide to go with. If you are considering trekking in Nepal, Sikkim, or Darjeeling, Fabian can arrange it; he has extensive experience and is happy to do tailor-made itineraries.
We had a fabulous trek, which I am totally satisfied with, and our guide, Kuman Gurung, and porter, Lakpa Sherpa, were extremely helpful and professional, and it would be a pleasure to do another trek with them.So Fabian, can you send me some details for round Manaslu. Singalila Dzongri Goechala Pass Trek is an extremely beautiful trek in a remote part of West Sikkim.
On the first part of the trek, we discovered a completely remote area of the Sikkim, where we did not meet any hikers. We had a fabulous crew who made our 11 days of camping trek an unforgettable time. They worked hard to set up our tents in the rain and to give us as much comfort as possible. There was always a smile on their faces.
17 days of travel with Fabian were a brilliant mixture of culture and trekking, so we got a very good insight into Buddhism, the people of Sikkim, and their history. We will keep those fantastic memories forever in our minds!
We really appreciated the time and effort you put in to make sure we had good trips. There was a lot of organization involved, and you handled it well. You were always there for us, even on the days before and after the treks in Darjeeling and Kathmandu. We certainly didn't see any other guides on the circuit that we would rather be with! Speaking English so well and having a good sense of humour made things a lot more fun and interesting. I also thank you for selecting such hard-working and friendly teams for both our trips. I hope in the future the porters, ponymen, and cooks stop being treated like second-class citizens! They all work so hard and clearly know their way around the trails and tea houses.
Rest assured, the trips exceeded our expectations! We will certainly send anyone we know your way if they are interested in doing a trek in the Himalayas! I hope that things worked out okay financially for your company. I imagine the pricing is hard to predict, especially in the Everest region.
Enjoy the time with your family and have a great motorcycle ride! I hope your wife makes all your favourite foods for you over the holidays (if you do get any holidays). We know you like simple, local foods!

Thank you for arranging such an interesting group of friends for Dee to interact with in Kalimpong. Bunty was a true gentleman, and Dee made more than a few friends in your neighborhood. In some ways, this was the highlight of her trip.
We all had a wonderful time, and I can't thank you enough for your expertise and gentle guidance on the Kanchenjunga Base Camp trail. I am happy to be a reference for anyone wishing to travel with FarOut in the future. I tried to leave a recommendation for you on Trip Advisor, but one has to be a member to do so, and I am not. Thus, I offered a few superlatives for Al to add in!
Fabian, answered all my questions quickly and completely via emails and we picked the Sandakphu - Gurdung itinerary because of the perfect views of Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, and Lhotse, 4 of the 5 highest peaks on the planet. Farout is highly recommended and exceeded my lofty expectations....Don't miss the 4:30 a.m. wake-up call to see the sunrise towards Everest and Kanchenjunga. Unforgettable!! Thanks, Fabian; we loved it
