ITINERARY FOR CENTRAL BHUTAN TOUR
Day 01 : Fly into Paro. Flight over the Himalayas is one of the most spectacular experiences one will ever experience. Fly past Mt.Everest, Kanchenjunga and the entire Himalayan range visible on the left side. Drive to Thimphu. Overnight hotel.
Day 02: Thimphu sightseeing
After breakfast visit the National Memorial Chorten, buit in the memory of the late King. Visit the National Library, Folk Heritage museum, Chokey handicraft and the national Painting School. After lunch visit the traditional goldsmiths and stroll in Thimphu town in the evening. Overnight at hotel.
Day 03: Thimphu – Trongsa
After breakfast drive to Trongsa (7-8 hours drive). Drive over the Dochula pass at 10,000 ft. and then descend to Wangdue valley at 4,000 ft. Lunch at Wangdue and after viewing Wangdue town and the Dzong continue your drive to Trongsa .Overnight at hotel.
Day 04: Trongsa – Bumthang
After breakfast and viewing Trongsa Dzong which is one of the most impressive Dzong’s in Bhutan. Built in 17th century by Shabdrung, this is a master piece of Bhutanses architecture. Drive to Bhumthang (2 hours) for lunch. Afternoon at leiaure. Overnight at tourist lodge.
Day 05: Bumthang sightseeing
After breakfast explore the valley which is different from other valleys in Bhutan. It is a wide valley with altitude ranging from 8’000 ft to over 13,000 ft. It is a haven for trekkers and hikers. Visit to Jambay Lhakhang, Tamshing Lhakhang ,Jakar Dzong and the famous Bumtha matha region ( wool weaving) used for making warm jackets and scarves for winters. Overnight at tourist lodge.
Day 06: Bumthang – Punakha
After early breakfast drive to Phunakha with pack lunch. The drive takes approximately 8 hours. Overnight at hotel in Punakha.
Day 07: Punakha – Paro
Morning visit to Punakha Dzong and the sleepy town. Drive to Thimphu for lunch in a local restaurant. After lunch drive to Paro. Overnight at hotel.
Day 08: Excursion to Takshang ( Tiger’s nest)
It is a 2-3 hours hike to Takshang monestary. Riding ponies can be arranged. Visitors are permitted to go upon the view point from where they can see the monastery hanging on the cliff. It was here that during the 8th century the great tantric master Guru Padmasambhava flew from Tibet on a tigress bringing Buddhist teachings to Bhutan. Today this is a very important place of pilgrimage for the local people. Lunch at the Takshang cafeteria. After lunch walk down hill to the bridge and drive to the hotel.
Day 09 : Paro sightseeing
After early breakfast drive to Paro. Drive straight north to see the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong, a victory fortress of the 17th century. On the way back stop at the Takshang (tiger’s nest) viewpoint. After lunch visit Ta-Dzong (National Museum) and walk down the hill for a view of Paro Dzong with its traditional wooden bridge over the Pa-chu (Paro river). Evening at leisure in the local market. Overnight hotel.
Day 10: Drive to Paro Airport for Final Departure. End of Central Bhutan Tour.
