Panch Pokhari Trek – Newly Discovered Trek in Sikkim

Sikkim is filled with gorgeous trails and varying terrain to suit every Trekker’s need. One of the most beautiful and scenic treks, for hikers looking to do a moderate multi-day trek is the Panch Pokhari Trek in South Sikkim. As the name suggests the trek route cuts through the Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary and ascends to Panch Pokhari – five fresh water lakes at 14,166ft. Surrounded by the snow capped peaks of the Kanchenjunga Range the view from Panch Pokari will leave you spellbound.

Panch Pokhari Trek little known and an unadulterated trek in South Sikkim.  Situated within the viscinity of the Kanchenjunga National Park and Maenam wildlife Sanctuary is a new trek route in Sikkim which not much people know about.  This trek  ascends to a maximum altitude of 14,166ft. A simple six days camping trek, Panch Pokhari Trek which only few locals know about with splendid views of the Kanchenjunga  Range as you trek deeper.

What makes  Panch Pokhari Trek in Sikkim stand out amongst the other popular treks like the Goechala Pass Trek or the Dzongri Trek is that this trek route is less trampled upon and solitary. A gem of a trek in Sikkim that passes through pristine nature, a trek that has not been explored in great length. Being a new trek route people hardly know about this Trek and there is  where the uniqueness of the Panch Pokhari Trek lies.

Best Time Visit Panch Pokhari

March to May is the best time to venture on the Panch Pokhari Trek when the weather is mild and the wild flower blooms and the different varieties of Rhododendron are in plenty. October to November is also a good time to trek to Panch Pokhari when the skies are clear and the reason for photography abounds.

  • Climate : Days are normally warm. Nights can at times be(general) very cold and in winter even below the freezing  point. Monsoon showers in summer (heaviest in July & August). Sometimes even in spring and autumn.

Panch Pokhari Itinerary

Day 01 : Arrive at Bagdogra Airport. Meet Guide and Drive to Gangtok. Overnight Hotel (B/B only).

Day 02 : A Day in Gangtok. Tour of Rumtek Monastery etc. Overnight Hotel (B/B only).

Day 03 : Drive  to Pamthang (10Km).  Panch Pokhari Trek in Sikkim Starts. Trek Pamthang  to Alo Tar (9Km/5Hrs). Overnight in Tents.

Day 04 : Trek Alo Tar to Chandu ( 9242ft./7Km/3Hrs). Overnight in Tents.

Day 05 : Trek Chandu to Gairi Orar (11,286ft/13Km/ 7Hrs). Overnight in Tents.

Day 06 : Trek Gairi Orar to Panch Pokhari (14,400ft./9Km/) . Trek Back to Gairi Orar. Overnight in Tents.

Day 07 : Trek Back to Chandu. Overnight in Tents.

Day 08 : Trek Back to Borong. End of the Panch Pokhari Trek in Sikkim .Overnight Lodge.

Day 09 : Drive to Kalimpong. Overnight Home Stay / Hotel (B/B only).

Day 10 : Drive to Bagdogra Airport / NJP Rail Station for Final Departure.
