Fambongyla Wildlife Sanctuary Day Hiking in Sikkim

Fambongyla Wildlife Sanctuary with an area of 51sq.Km is an extension of the Kanchenjunga Bio Sphere Reserve. This Sanctuary lies 30Km on the outskirts of the Capital Gangtok and is a hotspot for popular day hiking around Gangtok in East Sikkim. The Focal point of this Day Hiking in Sikkim is the Tinjure View Point 2130m. The sanctuary is also home to a large variety of birds species like the Hill Partridge, Satyr Tragopan, Fire Tailed Myzornis, Bar Throated Minla, Red Tailed Minla, Black Eared Shrike Babbler to name a few. The Tinjure view Point Day Trek in Sikkim starts with drive to Golitar (14Km/45minutes drive), a small Hamlet on the outskirts of Gangtok. The 5Km and 3hours uphill trek takes you to Tinjurey View Point from this vantage point you get to watch the spectacular views of the Kanchenjunga Range and the river valley down below.

Mammals, which are also sighted in this sanctuary are Barking Deer, Yellow Throated Marten, Himalayan Brown Bear and Red Panda. Beside these wildlife, Takin, Red fox and Musk Deer can also be found in the Fambongyla wildlife sanctuary but at higher altitudes. Some very commonly seen mammals in this wildlife sanctuary are Himalayan striped squirrel.

Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary – Bhaledunga Trek a one day hike in Sikkim

Trek to Bhaledunga in Maenam wildlife sanctuary makes an interesting one day trek in Sikkim. On a clear day the mountain views and that of the plains of West Bengal can be mesmerizing. The 10Km trek to an altitude of 3235m to Maenam Hill is an interesting short day trek  & Ravangla is the starting point for this popular one Day Trek in Sikkim. Total distance covered is 20Km.

Another popular Day Hiking in Sikkim is a 5Km trek to Tendong Hill (2600m) in Ravangla. Damthang is the base for this short 5Km Day Trek in Sikkim. Drive from Ravangla to Damthang(14Km/30minutes) and start this short trek in Sikkim from here. Tendong hill top has been the home of spiritual Gurus seeking seclusion for meditation. Besides the view of the Kanchenjunga Range and of the plains of West Bengal down below from Tendong Hill is mesmerizing.

A Day Hike in Sikkim in Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary
