WESTERN BHUTAN CULTURAL TOUR  ITINERARY

Day 1 : Arrive at Paro.
Witness the most spectacular views of Mt.Everest, Mt. Kanchenjunga, and the entire Himalayan range visible on the left side. Drive to Thimphu. Overnight Hotel.

Day 2: Thimphu sightseeing.

Explore Thimphu’s Cultural Attractions and MarketsEmbark on a cultural journey in the morning by visiting the National Memorial Chorten, which stands as a tribute to the late King. Next, immerse yourself in knowledge at the National Library and gain insight into Bhutanese heritage at the Folk Heritage Museum. Discover traditional handicrafts at Chokey Handicraft and witness artistic mastery at the National Painting School.

As evening falls, indulge in some retail therapy with a visit to the National Emporium and take a leisurely stroll through Thimphu’s bustling market. Conclude your day with an overnight stay at your hotel, reflecting on all that you’ve experienced during this enriching day of exploration.

Day 3 : Thimphu – Phunakha/Wangdue and back.
Embark on a leisurely 3-hour drive from Thimpu via the Dochula Pass at an elevation of 10,000 ft to the charming town of Punakha. Along the way, witness some of Bhutan’s tallest peaks, including Gangkar Puensum, towering at 25,000 ft. As you descend through the scenic route adorned with rhododendrons and magnolias, you’ll transition from temperate forests to semi-tropical landscapes boasting oranges, bananas, and cacti before reaching the picturesque valley of Phunakha.

Explore the tranquil town of Phunakha before continuing your journey to Wangdue Valley, affectionately known as Windy Valley. Following a leisurely lunch and a brief exploration of Wangdue town, make your way back to Thimpu with a stop for evening tea at Dochula cafeteria en-route. Unwind for the night at a comfortable hotel in Thimphu after an eventful day filled with unforgettable sights and experiences.

Day 4: Thimphu and Paro Sightseeing.
Take a drive to Paro and head straight north to explore the remains of Drukgyel Dzong, an ancient fortress that symbolizes victory from the 17th century. On your way back, make a stop at the Takshang viewpoint, also known as the “tiger’s nest.” In the afternoon, pay a visit to Ta-Dzong, which is recognized as one of the finest natural and historical museums. Then take a leisurely walk down the hill for stunning views of Paro Dzong with its traditional wooden bridge spanning over Pa-chu (Paro river). Spend your night at the hotel in Paro for some well-deserved rest.

Day 5 : Excursion to Takshang ( Tiger’s nest)
Embark on a 2-hour hike to the Takshang Monastery, also known as Tiger’s Nest. According to legend, the revered Tantric master Guru Padmasambhava, or Guru Rinpoche, flew from Tibet on the back of a tigress and arrived at Takshang in the 8th century. It is believed that he meditated here for three months and preached Buddhism in Bhutan. Following the hike, enjoy lunch at the Takshang cafeteria before walking downhill to reach the bridge, and then return by driving back to your hotel.

Day 6: Drive to Paro International Airport for Final Departure. End of the Tour.
